Any tips/suggestions for a wedding in Hawaii?
My fiancee and I plan on getting married in Hawaii. Anyone ever had a wedding on one of the islands there? We don't want to spend too much on a fancy resort, maybe a small wedding outdoors and an outdoor reception with buffet style meal. Thanks for your help!

- Casual attire, no heeled shoes, and no pantyhose. Everybody will be extremely uncomfortalbe on a beach in a gown. I also reccomend fabric "walls" as wind breakers to put up stratigically around the food tables. If the wind starts blowing things will get all sandy and you don't want that. Don't do the goldfish in the bowl centerpiece...it might be visually cute but its just mean to the fish. I would keep decor as simple as possible. You are either going to have to rent everything or figure out a safe way to get it to Hawaii on a plane which is hard to do.
- Hi. My Marine son and his fiancee were married right on the beach in Honolulu. Cost was minimal. Beach was free to use. But the wedding was beautiful. My son rode a surf board onto the beach for the ceremony! Two days later he went to Iraq. About 10 months later, after he returned from Iraq, they had a big formal wedding at a fancy hotel in Honolulu. Cost was huge. Ya know, honestly, the beach wedding was much nicer.... god bless
- We just got back from Maui. All the beaches are public beaches, so you can set up no problem. There was a wedding while we were there. It was sweet. all they did was set up two tiki torches and this is where the couple stood. Then we saw another couple having their reception at the luau. I thought that was an awesome idea. They had had their wedding on the beach. Then they came to the luau, for entertainment and dinner. Might be something to consider. Sure there's other people around but they will be at the beach too. Everyone's eyes were on them because it was so sweet to see. Also, the couple's family was in casual attire, as everything is very casual there. Each couple was wearing matching Aloha shirts. I thought it was cute too.
- I went to Kihei, Maui for the first time in April. My fiance and I were 2 inches close to doing it while we were there and excluding everyone out that was back in the states. We decided not to but sometimes I wish we would of! Kihei is beautiful. The beaches are number one. The place we stayed at was called Sugar Beach Resort, it was fairly priced and lovely. A lot of the rooms are Ocean Front and the view is incredible. Go there, and I promise you'll never forget it! Maui is number one!!!!
- i live here! (on oahu).. there are tons of small beaches you could get married on.. there are places where you can rent chairs/tables and there are tons of private caterers.. should you decide on oahu and like anything checked out.. let me know!
- I got married on the island of Kauai. Beautiful. There are many marriage coordinators on the islands that will arrange the site for you to be married, the minister, flowers and whatever else you need. Enjoy.
