Marriage Hawaii

Is gay marriage legal in other states besides California, Hawaii and Massachusetts?

I think those are all the current states. California's law passed a few days back. How does it work? Does the couple have a wedding, have a marriage license, and get the same rights/benefits as a male/female married couple?

Public Comments

  1. Who cares? Its not a real marriage anyway.
  2. No and who cares in California the marriages being performed now are illegal anyway and in november they will be null and void, just wait and see.
  3. they are working on it but gay marriages are not legal in Hawaii as of yet.  Right now in the US, Massachusetts and California recognize gay marriage and Vermont recognizes gay civil unions (it's all semantics--it's still marriage). and while Oregon doesn't perform gay marriages they will perform divorces for gay residents who want them. the states that recognize gay marriages/unions have the same rights, privliges, and obligations as a heterosexual married couple. yes they can have a wedding--there are some clergy who will marry gay couples or they can have a judge offciate just as some heterosexual couples do. They get a license just like anyone else. In the US, the federal government doesn't recognize gay marriages so gay marriages are only protected in states that recognize them. With the exception of Oregon, if the couple were to move to a state that doesn't recognize gay marriage and they wanted to divorce then they wouldn't be able to divorce. Canada, the UK, Holland and I think Brussels also allow gay marriages.
